bibliospot interactive / prototype website
Prototype of an online tool which aims to make searching for information easier by enabling users to compare library collections. It is aimed at researchers and academics and would focus on academic and specialist libraries.
The online tool allows users to search by subject using the structure of a library classification system – this prototype uses the Dewey Decimal system. The main function is to enable users to see which libraries hold the most items on a given subject by comparing their library spot size. Data from online library catalogues is used to generate visualisations that enable users to compare library collections. Each library is represented by a system of different sized spots – each spot represents a class, spot size depends on the number of items in the class and spot location shows the position of the class in the classification hierarchy.
